Secrets of Successful Color Mixing: Understanding Your Watercolor Paint

Class Length: One Week, January 13-20, 2020

Monday, January 13th from 7:00 – 9:00 pm EST

Wednesday, January 15th from 7:00 – 9:00 pm EST

Saturday, January 18th from 3:00 – 5:00 pm EST

Class Cost: $100 USD

In this one-week course I will go over everything you need to know about the paint you are using.

In this class we will cover:

  • How to make a color mixing chart
  • Staining verse lifting colors
  • Granulating colors
  • Transparent verse opaque and when to use each
  • What color pigment codes mean
  • How to match colors from brand to brand
  • Primary, secondary, tertiary, complimentary
  • How to mix vibrant blacks
  • How to chose colors for a painting
  • How to maximize the colors you have without buying more
  • And many more useful tips you should know about your watercolor paint!

How it Works:

We will have three live online classes through Zoom. You will get a link with an invite for each class and all you have to do is click on it. The live online classes will be recorded and downloaded into the private Facebook group for you to watch at your convenience, so if you cannot make one of the live sessions you will not miss the content.

For the full week of class, the private Facebook group will be open for you to post your progress and finished work and get any help or questions answered you might need along the way. All live sessions and class information will be posted in the group that you will have access to for the week of class and one more week after it’s officially over. You will have access to all the information in the Facebook group for this class until January 27, 2020.

This course is perfect for all levels of watercolor artists that would like to know more about he colors they are using.

What you need to take this course: (A full detailed list will be given when you sign up for class.)

  1. Watercolor paper: I recommend Arches, Fabriano, or Kilimanjaro cold pressed 140lb or 300lb paper. You need artists grade paper, not student grade.
  2. Watercolor Brushes: I use Holbein Gold Round brushes, size 4, 8, and 12 should be good for this painting. Make sure you have good artist grade watercolor round brushes that come to a nice point.
  3. Watercolor Paint: I use Holbein paint, but just make sure you have good artist quality watercolor paint. We are going to work with the colors that you already own so you do not have to purchase specific colors for this class.
  4. Computer or mobile phone to join the live zoom meeting. Zoom is free to use and I will send you a link for the meetings.
  5. A Facebook account so you have access to the group class information.
